What is the series about?
Secrets of the Bunny Ranch (A&E, 2025) is a six-part documentary series that sheds light on the hidden and often grim realities behind the world-famous brothel Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Nevada. In the series' fifth episode, titled 'The Lamar Odom Party', it specifically focuses on one of the most talked-about scandals in the establishment's history: NBA star Lamar Odom's near-death experience in October 2015. The series utilizes firsthand accounts from the women and staff who were present when the festivities escalated into a life-threatening medical emergency. Director Robin Bicknell delves into the culture of the ranch, which was previously portrayed in a more glamorous light in the HBO series Cathouse .
The real case
The real case of Lamar Odom began when the former Los Angeles Lakers player checked into Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Mound House, Nevada, to party. After several days of heavy consumption of alcohol and performance-enhancing drugs as well as cocaine, Odom was found unconscious with foam at the mouth. The owner of the establishment, the controversial Dennis Hof , was subsequently criticized for the safety and activities that took place behind closed doors. Odom suffered multiple strokes and kidney failure as a result of the overdose, and his fight for survival was closely followed by media worldwide, including in the reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, as he was still legally married to Khloé Kardashian at the time.
