Swedish documentary series returns with fresh investigations into the country's most shocking unsolved and solved cases
Quick Facts
Swedish documentary series Crime Scene Sweden returned for Season 12 in 2024, presenting eight episodes of carefully curated investigations into the country's most shocking criminal cases. Narrated by Magnus Roosmann and produced by Klas Lindberg and Kicki Sehlstedt, the season offers approximately 42 minutes per episode of thorough examination into both infamous murders and lesser-known small-town crimes that have captivated Swedish audiences.
The series format continues to balance between nationally recognized cases and regional mysteries, earning its reputation as a comprehensive window into Sweden's true crime landscape. Each episode delves into the investigative work, evidence, and outcomes that defined some of Scandinavia's most significant criminal investigations.
**A Case of Ancestral DNA: The Linköping Murders**
Among the cases that exemplify modern investigative breakthroughs featured in Swedish true crime programming is the 2004 Linköping murders. On October 19, 2004, two victims—8-year-old Mohammed Ammouri and 56-year-old Anna-Lena Svensson—were stabbed to death at Åsgatan in Linköping. The case remained unsolved for 16 years, becoming a notable example of Sweden's cold case challenges.
The breakthrough came through ancestral DNA analysis, marking the first time this forensic method solved a murder in Swedish history. In 2010, a sketch of the suspected perpetrator was released and featured on the SVT program *Veckans brott* (Crime of the Week). By June 2020, Daniel Nyqvist was arrested following a DNA match—a 100 percent confirmation to crime scene evidence. Nyqvist confessed immediately, revealing that he had heard voices commanding him to kill. He stabbed the young boy first; Svensson, who witnessed the attack, became his second victim.
