Jessica Biel Narrates Vermont Murder in 'Fatal Destination'
Investigation Discovery series examines Emily Schwarz Ferlazzo's death during a camping trip gone wrong
Quick Facts
On October 15, 2021, Emily Schwarz Ferlazzo and her husband embarked on what appeared to be an idyllic road trip in their converted bus through Vermont's countryside. The couple drove from her parents' property to Bolton, a rural town approximately 30 miles east of Burlington, near Lake Champlain. Emily documented the scenic journey with videos sent to family members. Three days later, her husband returned home without her.
By October 19, the morning after Ferlazzo's return, authorities would begin investigating circumstances that transformed a peaceful getaway into a tragedy. Police discovered Emily's remains placed in garbage bags inside the camper, along with weapons used in the killing. The case would eventually draw national attention when Investigation Discovery featured it in the true crime docuseries "Fatal Destination," which is executive-produced and narrated by actress Jessica Biel.
**Warning Signs Before the Trip**
Emily's family had expressed serious concerns about her marriage long before the fatal journey. Her mother, identified as Bass in reports, sensed what she described as a "strong danger" emanating from her son-in-law in the weeks preceding the trip. "We were all afraid of him," the family stated, suggesting a pattern of behavior that alarmed those closest to Emily. These fears would prove tragically prescient.
**The Fatal Argument**
According to Ferlazzo's account, a heated argument erupted between the couple during their time in Bolton. He claimed that when Emily attempted to leave, he physically restrained her. The confrontation escalated when Emily kicked him, and Ferlazzo stated he then left to go to a store. Upon his return, he alleged that Emily had vanished.
However, investigators' findings contradicted this narrative. Evidence indicated that Ferlazzo killed Emily during their stay, and within approximately 12 to 15 hours of the shooting, he dismembered her body and concealed the remains in garbage bags placed inside their camper.
